Title: Duke Dixon - Memorial Ceremony
Post by: Paul Mullan on October 04, 2019, 11:54:42 AM
Many of you will have heard about Duke Dixon slipping away a couple of months back. His funeral was in Wanaka however as planned hi nephew Tim McFarlane (confirmed there is to be a memorial service at the family farm HOLTON this coming Sunday.

266 South Eyre Rd
(Take the Tram Rd exit after crossing the Waimakariri, heading north from Christchurch)

Sadly, I'm unable to be there however Paul Smith will be flying the flag for JBNZ, and as well Im sure there will be many past jet boaters who will want to celebrate JBNZ's inaugural President's contribution to jet boating.

Remember, without these pioneer jet boaters we might well be doing much less boating on speed uplifted rivers than we currently enjoy, so if you get a chance to attend, I'd encourage you to attend.

For me, Duke was an important connection to jet boating in many ways, not just as our founding President and the contribution he made to that aspect of our history but also as the man who put the first commercial jet boat on the Waimak Gorge.

Thanks for everything you did Duke... Like many, I was privileged to spend special time with you over many years... and share tales from an era that are an important contribution to the fabric of jet boating history.
