Matukituki looking great
« on: December 31, 2010, 19:07:59 PM »
After running at 600 cumecs early this week Matukituki looking awesome yesterday (30th December) at 120 cumecs.
6 other boats up the river which was still coloured at West Wanaka ramp but rapidly cleared further up.
Only running my trusty Jet32 but managed to get 20k's up (according to the gps) before the dusty conditions and wind ripple made it hard to read. Only the odd stone rattle, with wide open reaches and multiple channels making for a
great afternoons jetboating. Back up tomorrow and want to get to the forks which we can't have been that far from.

Part 2 - News years day. Full tanks in the Jet32 and on the river by 9.30. River now down to just a smidgin over 100 cumecs. Weather dead calm and sunny. Got to the forks in no time with only one minor backtrack and after guidance from Real Journeys driver who was upstream removing boulders at the forks, headed up the west branch - wow, what awesome water, runs and scenery. Been up the road here before but not viewed from the river. Stopped just north of Boys High lodge. Back at the entry ramp by midday with a queue of 6-8 boats lined up for launch. Given it blew up a gale NW this arvo and given more rain due tonight, this morning has to rate as one of the more spectacular jetboat trips todate. Couple more snaps below.

Sure was and appreciate the effort. If I'd been on the case I should have used the boat to give me a starting shunt.

Wow, Matukituki up again to 600 cumecs this morning (monday 3rd) so looks like a sleep in for a few days in order on this one. Lake Wanaka on the way back up again and with sodden ground conditions already could produce some more flooding. Hope not!!
