Tantangara Dam NSW Australia August 2011
« on: October 02, 2011, 18:33:18 PM »
Some pictures and words of a trip I did to Tantangara dam In August.

We normally Fish Eucumbene , Tantangara is a bit more difficult to get too so it had been on the bucket list for a while. The turn off to Tantagara is on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Adaminaby and Kiandra, thence 18km of rough dirt road then a  Difficult boat ramp....

Dam is at 1220 m altitude , 27% full on this trip , the highest it had been years. more typically it is 11%.  Weather was  benign , no wind -6C overnight

First shot is the Murrumbidgee head waters, where it flows into Tantangara, note the tussock grass has been bent by recent high flow from snow melt. The first rapid was within earshot. Didn't want to disturb this area by running through it  as we wanted to do some  ''nymphing'

Yes very isolated, no mobile coverage. I carry a spot tracker just in case I need to send an assitance call.

Motels at Adaminaby, about 40km (90 mins) by road, the trouble with trout fishing  is the much of the best action is sunset and sunirise, so we stay on the waters edge.
