Hi all,

Believe it or not I still can not find a fabricator who is willing to bend 5083. C""

The best I have found so far is a press capable of bending  5mm Alli with a 7mm internal radius, ie. 14 mm round die.

What do you guys this? Will this crack 5mm 5083 alli?

Thanks,
Rich

most likely, the formula is fold diameter 5x sheet thickness. You can get away with less, I use a 20mm dia bar for 5mm, but need to go to a 25mm dia when folding 6mm. unlikely that you will be successful with a 14mm dia bar on 5mm 5083. Get a test peice and try first, just be sure there are no scratches on the outside of the bend from which cracks can propagate

Id use grade8 or 10 steel bolts too...stainless is junk

Ditto... Best bolts to use with aluminium are (Metric) galvanized grade 8.8.

One guy here suggests Nickel anti seize if using SS bolts... maybe, but way superior to that for connecting dissimilar metals is Duralac available from most NZ chandlers
