Hi guys.
My name is pete (from christchurch) and I'm new to the forum as well as jet boating. I have a small old boat (i assume its a home built hull, can't really be sure though) , steel bottom with alloy top, 5 seats just squeezed in,350 chev and a three stage colorado unit. Picked it up pretty cheap in march and have had a bit of fun in it so far. Am currently in the process of sorting the cavitating jet unit. she has seen a few stones! Can't wait to see how it goes with no slip!!
It seems that getting stuck is a big part of the game. I have only been out a couple of time without getting stuck since i bought the boat. Obviously i still have a lot to learn about reading rivers but it's going to take a lot more getting stuck to learn.
So, my question. What techniques do you guys use to get unstuck again. I have a couple of big strong sticks that seem to work a treat for short distances but it is bloody hard work if there is a big push involved. I have heard of lots of different types of recovery equiptment (rollers and stuff) but haven't seen any in action. Bring on the advice and the pics/videos!!!!!
Cheers Pete

I'd recommend you do the New boaters program, you will learn a few tricks of the trade & meet some like minded people to go boating with, tag along on some of the runs organised on this web board as well.
Another good idea would be to tag along as nav for someone and watch.
Things I've noticed when helping new boaters is, when they get unsure of where to go they put there foot down, not a good idea if your not sure which channel you should be taking & normally ends in a push.
What you do is slow down to give yourself more time to think & look for a hole to stop/hold in while you survey the way ahead.
