No not yet. A proposal for a 6 month uplifting was put forward and public submissions for and against have just recently closed. Some of the panel making the decision want to boat the river again to access the impact. Southland and our rivers officer are working on this front. Fingers crossed.

I see that the decision is out from QLDC going forward...http://www.odt.co.nz/your-town/wanaka/121291/hunter-river-decision-may-disappoint-both-sides

personally I think that is quite a good decision. It needs a happy medium between boating access and anglers.

OoOoO  Road Trip

Where are the launching spots?

Kidds Bush, on Mead Road, which branches off main road to west coast from Hawea, at the Neck. Quite a long way up the lake to the Hunter River, and you really want to avoid it if the forecast is for windy weather, as Lake Hawea can get VERY rough!! Great river in the right conditions!!

Roughly 6 kms from main road, and about 23 kms to river mouth.

Or at the neck itself - which is about 40 minutes to the mouth cruising at around 2800 - 3000 RPM. You need to pick a good day with a large high over the Island.
