Trailer brakes washouts. Tip.
« on: December 05, 2010, 19:48:42 PM »
I saw this years ago and decided to set it up on my trailer.

I launch the boat mainly in salt water. The last owner fitted the trailer with drum brakes, (dumb idea).  I quickly became sick of having to take the brake apart to clean and release them.

I drilled a 19mm hole into the brake backing plate in an area that was not going to touch any moving parts inside the drum. I screwed a right angled garden fitting into this hole and attached a length of 19mm garden hose to it. This hose has a simple hose connection attached to it.

When I get home as I'm flushing the motor I connect ea drum brake an flush them aswell.  Since I started this I havnt had the brakes appart.
Happy Days
