Hi Daggs, I did it to a single stage unit with gates on, on the beach at Glenduh Bay, [about 1979  C""] and it worked a treat, and stayed in place a lot longer than expected  b> Mixed bog on a lump of tin, and put in place with finger, shaped a ring around the nozzle, with a bit of taper on it to help water flow. From memory put about 6 or so mills around the entire nozzle. Let it set in the hot sun and then went back to water-skiing  ;D The idea was, if it restricted the nozzle too much, we'd file some of it out, but the first attempt was so good it just stayed that way, until I replaced the old single with a 2stage Colorado which I still have!!

another way to make spare inserts is making a mould of the original nozzle using RTV silicone rubber
a 1kg pail costs about 60 bucks, make sure you mix the exact amount of catalyst with it.
youtube "mouldmaking with RTV silicone rubber "

having a flexible mould means you can make how ever many nozzles you want and turn them out to different diameters to make
tuning/ experimenting easier on the river. you can even make moulds of what ever jet part you want to modify to check before you butcher !
i used R180 epoxy resin to cast them with, any decent resin will do.
once youve found the right nozzle, turn your original out to suit and whack it in : )
