Would like to convert a 3 stage Chinook to nozzle - how can this be done?
« on: August 21, 2011, 03:45:31 AM »
Hi all, greetings from Canada, I have a three stage Turbocraft Marine Model 2233 and I would like to see if anyone here has knowledge on whether there is a way to convert this to nozzle steering?

Thanks,

Wayne

The Tailpipe is the same as the Hamilton Chinook 3 stage but was built by Indiana Gear Works in the USA. All the parts are interchangeable with the Hamilton Chinook.

Check out the JR Project there are photos of one i did... You will need to make or have made a wedge for the nozzle to bolt to.... Cheers JR

I just checked out your thread on the JR project but almost all the pics are deleted with only the last 2 pages with pics. Is there somewhere I can view pics of the Chinook nozzle conversion?

But if I understand you correctly it can be done with a wedged adapter plate that will attach directly to the existing Chinook 6 bolt pattern Tailpipe enabling attachment of a 4 bolt pattern nozzle.

1. Is there someone here with the expertise that can fabricate the adapter plate for me?

2. What nozzle setups will fit and work well with the Chinook unit?

Also mods would you please move this thread to the “Steering Systems & nozzles“ section.

OK Thanks, I assume the wedge in the adapter plate is there to create proper trim angle on the nozzle.

I have trim tabs on my boat (20‘ x 8.5’ welded aluminum).

But regardless of my trim tabs, if I was to adapt a nozzle with trim, the wedged shape in the adapter plate should not be needed - correct?

I think the wedge was 25mm at the bottom and at the top was only 5mm... But if your putting a trim nozzle on you may not need to make a wedge... Cheers JR
