P76 oil leaks
« on: November 09, 2011, 13:21:12 PM »
Hi
I currently have an oil leak on a P76 eingine. I have already replaced the rear oil seal where the oil leak appears to come from. Has anyone had a similar problem and what was required to solve this issue?

Thanks Paul

Spray degreaser all over the engine, then identify exactly where it's coming from.  Rovers/P76 can leak from many places...  ;)

this is a common problem with p76 rear seals.
crank seals are usually not the cause of the problem.
more common are the main bearing cap seals, they are now obsolute.
pack the main cap grooves with asbestos rope packing in as tight as possible.
cut flush and smear end with a dab of silicone.tighten evenly.
cheers roger
