Canterbury Branch does have it's Safety Training Day/Waimak Slalom/Xmas Picnic planned for the 2nd December on the Waimak but there is no reason why you can't come and join us for the day (no push poles should be required) B))T
If you have any questions, ring the organiser Paul Vernel, 03 385-1478 or 0274 321-104

It's all good, I've talked to Paul, and we may see them after our run b_r I doubt we'll get in anybodys road, but we'll probably need our push poles  C""  ;D

Well what a great day we had  b> 5 boats, perfect weather, and a nice clear river. Stopped for lunch about half way up when we found a stopping place out of the mainstream where we could park in the shade. Everyone wanted to carry to the top bridge so we carried on. Phil stopped for a fuel check and opted to wait for us on the return, and HB also stopped a bit further up. Grant Blair and I all made it to the gorge bridge for a brief spell and then headed back. HB needed a jump-start and then we collected up Phil and all made it back to the ramp  b> b> Phil had a small push on the way up and no other dramas.
In the second picture you can't really see the smile on Phil's face, but believe me, it was huge  ;D ;D After the drama he had on the Rakia last Autumn, this was great run  b>
For me, it was ticking off one on the "bucket list", and with dry feet, fantastic day  ;D
Sorry Cant. guys, we didn't wait around to talk at the end of the day, we all had long drive ahead of us  ;D

you guys invented a perfect redneck sport.  All you need is a boat, a big motor and the desire to do something that might end badly.

65 kph
kph??  ;D We were only doing about 40kph most of the way  ;D I made it about 60kms on google earth, so I guess Ben is right at 65kms  b>
Stats for anyone interested. I put 3.4 hours on the engine clock, which included a short return to ramp for camera at start of run, burned 70lof fuel for ave 20.5lperhour. Used 43l for upstream run and 27l downstream. 99 TXLtd Prado did 370kms for the trip and used 11.8l/100kms. Total fuel bill for the day $221.70.  C""  Great day out though b> b> 7stones in the grill and a few scratches on the fresh "Slide"

Awesome stats there John!! I havent done the boat yet but Clayton's sprint hulled boat (he didn't build the hull though) with the same motor as yours and an 8.5 inch single stage is roughly the same as the the vq30det and 8.25 inch single in a 'normal' hull of his...though his is a bit quicker when those two owners start playin ;) ;D
What set up have you got for the fuel reading in the boat, just engine time for up, then engine time for back and a refill?
