For a couple hundred more for a 5x10 why wouldn't you run 6061 for the hull?  On my dinghy I am planning on a sheet of 6061 3/16 for the hull. My understanding in 40% more strength out of same weight

How you all doin? My name is jeff and this is my first post. I live just south of canadian border in nw washington state.

 Been lurking, reading every post, gathering parts and getting ready to build soon.

Why not 6061 has also been a question i have. It will not make tight bends. But might be nice for the bottom.

Does anyone know how it holds up in marine or fresh water?

It is also harder, would you have problems with cracking and fatigue?

Eagle use 6061, but  I dont think we get it in  NZ as most builders use 5083 for the bottom and 5052 for the rest.
Alot of early ali boats are soft and for that reason they arent as good a deal as they may seem

It is available here although hard to find. 6061 also has a weaker HAZ when compared with 5083

has a higher impact strength but very hard to bend a decent radius without cracking. I actually have half a sheet 2400x 600 10mm. I had a supplier bring it in as was going to use as keel plate on a boat. no longer going down that road if someone wants it. can have at cost. not sure but about 700 nzd  ex chch

is the preferred choice in north America where more  readily available .
