Steering tie wire
« on: March 23, 2011, 18:43:52 PM »
I've done this with a M10 shackle to make it clear to see. Only had alloy wire so the twists aren't as tight as I'd like for fear of breaking and having to start again. Use either copper or stainless (prefered) lockwire, then you'll be able to twist with a pair of pliers and get things nice and tight.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare turnbuckle in stock to demonstrate.

Loop the wire through the eyelet of the shackle,

Twist both strands together for about 15 - 20mm.

Rotate the twisted strands clockwise around the shank of the shackle

Then tie off to the body.

To check you have done it correctly, try to undo the shackle. If the lockwire tried to pull against you it's all good. If the lockwire ends up in a twisted mess you may wish to try again.

I put the two shackles on my 752 and then tightend the pins and aligned the two holes, then put a long split pin thru both holes and opened up the
end of the split pin to stop it coming out
