D2 Forward/reverse setup

I have a D2 controller that I want to hook up to my colorado for a cable fwd rev (currently has a window wiper motor for fwd/rev which works but is dodgy and slow I have been living with it but I am over it). I understand that D2 controllers take a D499 cable that is no longer manufactured. Apparently you can either buy a hamilton adapter part 103366 Morse D2 helm to morse 290 cable adapter. Or you can buy one of these http://bla.co.nz/newzealand/products/boat-steering/mechanical-steering/helms-accessories/adaptor-ssc62-cable-to-tfx-d290-helm.html and machine a slot in the male end so it fits in the D2 controller and then run a teleflex steering cable, D345 or SSC920/SSC620 do I have this right? This seems like a lot of pfaffing around I did some searching on here and read about the diggers brakes and cables guy in ChCh does he make the D499 cables? What are my options?

stick steer set ups from US Jet and air boats use D2 controls and cables.... Search on ebay , theres heaps
