Hatch hinges?
« on: February 08, 2018, 15:30:12 PM »
Organising to get an engine cover and looking to buy some hinges any suggestions?

Would a pair these be OK?

googling threw up some fancy hidden jobs they look solid but not cheap (80US) and probably heavy http://www.whitewatermh.com/catalog/white-water/hinges/hidden-engine-hatch-hinge-long/

Yep I like those hinges as it only takes 30 seconds to get the engine cover off.

I have used those separating butterfly hinges on a couple of builds. Don't use them any more. Have had them pop apart on 2 separate occasions on 2 separate boats. I don't know how but they did pop and the cover came loose  they only engage by about 5mm.
They are handy for removing engine cover quickly(if running a rover  engine) bt I stick a gas strut on the engine cover so need tools to remove cover anyway.
I like those second ones. Nice and tucked away hidden but you do need to cut a decent size hole in the transom to fit them? 2c

I've had a set of these on the Rover powered boat for years now.
Both the hinges and the engine have been faultless.
It's all in the setup. B))T
