ford engine conversion
« on: April 28, 2018, 13:51:34 PM »
Hi am replacing my ford 250 crossflow engine in 14ft andrews colt with 195kw fg barra na engine
using ms2 ecu ,au falcon throttle body and aliart mixer and manifold driving 753 with 19 degree blades.
Anyone had experience with this type of conversion. have read a few past posts on the subject.
Also 250 engine ,rollco manifold and mixer will come up for sale if anyone interested.
cheers mike

Hi Mike,
I’m thinking of doing the same thing on my Hamilton 140S with either a barra or AU I-6, either would be a good power upgrade.  It has a crossflow too, running a 19 degree bullet followed by a 17 degree second stage on a 752. Pulls 3950 rpm wot.  I’m thinking to keep the 2-stage with the Increased power I will need to look for a 19 or 21 degree second stage to keep rpm reasonable.  I’m hoping to reuse the Ali art manifold.  Any thoughts or advice welcome.
Regards Rich

So far spent 890 on engine including 145 freight down from auckland.it surposibly done under 20000km.
880 on megasquirt2 ecu including ignition ignitor module(ford have thiers built into factory ecu so u need
to set one up with aftermarket ecu)it should run vvt in closed loop mode so switches on at set rpm.
65 on au cable throttle body to replace fly by wire type on fg engine.
1480 on manifold and mixer(probably could have altered rollco one to fit but wanted to keep crossflow engine complete and anyway the water inlet/outlet on crossflow are on same side whereas they on different sides on fg engine so i could see a bit frustrution geting it altered .have only got so far as getting old engine out hopefully have it up and running by end of winter. At 260hp at 6000rpm standard should have plenty of power for what i need.
If anyone has any info it would be appreciated otherwise ill nut it out as i go cheers mike

I also have one of these engines I'm looking to eventually replace an old 4.1, I have just the engine and was thinking of getting a standard ecu and the throttle pedal from the car, getting the ecu flashed to get rid of the security stuff and allow it to run as a standalone engine. Would be keen to hear how others have done/doing theirs. Pics of setups would be ideal!

Hi Benjagger I’m running heat exchanger it’s sitting underneath the sump. Johnathon is his name he advertised on eBay. They run Barra motors in there stock cars. I’ll txt him for you to see if he is still doing them. He also send a loom to plug in so you only have to hook up 3 wires. I’m running a digital rev counter which has temperature and volts on it off the obd2 plug because there is no out put for rev counter from the motor as the coil packs are on the spark plugs. Also you have to pick up a pulse from some where ( I’ve done it off the fly wheel) to tell the computer that your moving ie speed sensor otherwise it goes into limp mode. I’ve all info on that sounds complicated but not.
If your in Canterbury you are more than welcome to come have a look.
Cheers steve

Ok I can get standard computer with loom for ba bf to make them stand alone for $650 and computer for fg for $850. You will need accelerator pedal out of car. I've got mine attached to the motor linked back to the boat one.
