Thanks, fella's will have a chat to AVR and see what's up. If I can do it in the boat it would be nice- with a colorado unit, if I take the tail cone off to protect the cutlass bearing can you run it out of the water with a hose up the grill or not?

Kakapo, could you confirm for me if the j30 and j35 run the same or similar engine wiring loom (if you have a factory loom)? Or Jeff you may know?

I had got my hands on 2x j37 engines from the states but they have no loom with them. I?m more interested in the injector and coil plugs etc

The j30 and j35 run very similar setups, although there are lots of little differences between the j series you can mix and match most of the parts.
The coil and injector plugs are easy, most are the same, even the k24, L15a etc use same plugs.
I'm pretty sure I can scrounge up any plugs required from local Honda wrecker if I dont already have in stock, got multiple honda looms here from carb conversion projects...

Potentially yes. Once I know what the money landed here is I will have a better idea of cost. I am trying to get photos out of the guys so I can see how complete they are.

All going to plan I will be able to get more once they are here too.

I will let you know once I know...

Thanks for the info- very helpful!

One point I would query- why so late engaging the VTEC? If you are only engaging it at 4800 (that's 1100 rpm after factory) it's almost only on for a few seconds unless you leave the boot down permanently?

Economy,  Its also switched on at 80% on the TPS. and above 60degrees celcius, So if ya boot it at any rpm it will come on.

Hi John,

Thanks for the additional info- make sense given you are utilising multiple input parameters.

That's not ideal....likely the car had a decent right side impact, that's where the main engine mount goes, sandwiched the water pump. Possibly could be welded up? It's only to keep the water in, that bit.
Where is the crank angle sensor? Behind front pulley or in side of block near rear of engine?

Im devising a plan to weld it up. As you say, it is only the top of the water pump etc.

Haven't studied it too hard yet, will let you know tomorrow.

I did weigh it though. With no intake (has the runners), no alternator or no starter it is 112kg. J37A1

Hi Guys,

Bit of advice needed.

I have the 3.5 a1 v6 humming along nicely- happy with the way it starts, runs etc and I am finally getting the afrs into the desired range.

I am pulling over 6k WOT on the same impeller I had with the turbo 4 but my take-off has suffered immensely (everything is heavier, unfortunately.) The engine is revving hard with poor hook-up, and I am having to pull 3500 plus to get on to the plane - definitely does not pop up like it used to.

The impeller is a southern jet bullet pitched at 15 deg.

I also know I would be better off with a 2 stage on the v6 but funds and another project boat won't allow it.

So, the question is (all other things being equal ie od's clean grill etc) would a coarser pitch like 21 deg be better for me? I want to bring the cruise revs well down and hook up better- the v6 it feels like a slipping clutch now and I assume that's exactly what's going on- the unit is not holding on to the torque of the v6?

You are right, the single stage will struggle to hold onto the v6 torque.
My opinion would be try an 18 or 19 bullet, I think a 21 would slip too.
In reality, I think you will struggle to be ever really happy with the single stage.
I just drove a new 3.9m LVB with j30 (injected) and new flo pro 2 stage. Impressive package, popped up good, cruises along happy as @3000rpm
Flat out about 4600rpm, 80ks.
