I haven't spent much time on the boat lately but will post a few photos of where we're at.
We got the unit aligned and finished mounting the engine.
My lad James is pretty proud of his handiwork... he's finished machining the steering helm b>
Tacked up the rest of the hull, just the screen to go. All straight, square and almost up to the standards set by Mohawk Marine  8)

Looks like James could become some stiff competition for Jeffjet if he keeps that standard up b>

October was the last update on this build......because nothing has been done until the last few days.
Hull welding is nearly complete, I made a little rolling steady for tig welding the outside corners. It worked OK and improved appearance from 2/10 to 2.5..... I'll grind welds and may even paint this boat for a change  :o
Screen is tacked on, came out pretty good considering the kit supplier provided no instructions or templates, that's what you get when dealing with backyarders.

Not too much wrong with your welds Lazy. Don't grind them off, it will end up cracking (unless you put a big weld prep on?). Paint will pretty them up more as well.

That looks like a professional build  jaw
Paint?? Does that mean you are going to look after this boat and not scratch it??

Jimmy, I've run a dirty big mig bead on the inside so hopefully they don't crack.
In saying that my last boat has cracked where the dash meets the side and both rear corners too 😑 That was mostly from following Karl in that nasty river at Franz Josef.... at least I didn't smash right through my seat 🤣🤣🤣.

Any tips on preparing alloy for painting?

Correct primers and prep with alloy is absolutely key to getting a lasting finish that won't just flake off.
Defo worth consulting a supplier for advice (Linkup paints etc) on a complete system.
Rubbing down all areas with scotchbrite until the finish is totally flat (as in no shine) is a good start. Use soapy water as you go which is a first stage of decreasing.

Making a little progress now.
The screen is fully welded and sanded off, dash sorted out and steering helm welded in. Played around with steering and reverse set up, I've copied the Jeffjet style of bellcrank as I'm really tight on space at rear of engine..... I don't know who shortened the driveshaft so much???

No progress for soooo long and then for some reason I've found a bit of spare time over the last few days...... ::)

Bucket seats were thrown out and gone back to a bench seat, still got a few finishing touches ✔
Fuel tank done with pump and filter mounted ✔
Forward/reverse leaver done ✔

About time you did some work on it.
This turbine housing has been sitting here waiting for ages....

It's probably still too hot to touch  ::)

Nothing very exciting to post but the boat is slowly coming together.
I've just remembered why painting boats isn't high on my list of favorite things to do.......
