Could have a head gasket on its way out. When they back fire through the exhaust (generally from not idling them down after full throttle) the head gaskets are very thin and with not much surface area on the head can easily go. They start back firing and doing stupid s%$t just about half throttle! Have just had to replace both head gaskets on our ride on with a 16hp v-twin Briggs. Hope this helps!
