Nelson-Marlborough Branch Waimea River Giant Slalom and Kids Rides Sunday 22 Nov

It's time for our annual Giant Slalom event on the Waimea (Appleby) River, Nelson.

Drivers briefing 10am sharp so pleased get there early and be launched prior to the briefing.

This year we are combining the event with Nelson Bays Police Youth Aid and have offered 24 kids and their care givers jet boat rides plus a BBQ.

We therefore need plenty of boats and help for the day so I urge you all to make the effort.

Follow the JBNZ signs from Blackbyre Road and Coastal Highway intersection.

This is an event where we have a special speed uplifting for the day to construct a course and see which driver and their navigator can get round the course quickest.

It involves some speed but the GS course is designed to make it safe and manageable for all.  There is a requirement for boaters and their navigators doing timed runs around the course to wear crash helmets so bring them if you have or borrow from others.

JBNZ promotes wearing of collared PFD's (Life jackets) and boats should meet the safe boating check list in the JBNZ handbook.

Please bring all your spare (named) PDF's especially kids ones to assist with the rides.  Previously it worked well taking rides on another section of the river while others  completed timed runs through the GS course.

Looking for helpers as well as boat drivers for loading kids and BBQ.

$10 entry fee per driver to assist with branch funds please.

A few hours work this morning out at the Waimea River and we have a course almost ready for tomorrow.  With a few of the racing fraternity joining us Richard Pointon's secure grip on the trophy for the last few years may be under threat.  I hear he's been in the shed tuning his unit and engine!!  Looking forward to a good turnout of boats and plenty of smiles from the kids.  See you all there.
