Hamilton 773 wear rings
« on: February 22, 2021, 07:59:50 AM »
Hi all. I'm a new member, thanks for the join. I apologize for the double post but I posted this in the Hamilton Jet forum and it looks like nobody has been there in a year so I didn't know if anyone would see it.

I was told by someone on our US jetboat site meanchicken.net that you guys might be able to help me on my wear ring question. I'd like to replace my wear rings but I'm having a hard time finding information and parts. I have the Hamilton manual but the instructions on replacing a wear ring aren't very detailed. I understand there is some sort of dielectric paint, an insulator ring, and then the wear ring but I'm not sure of the procedure or where to even get parts. It seems to be a big mystery here and many just order a new stator with a wear ring in it which seems like a waste of money and reusable parts. Can anyone help me out with this here? Thanks in advance.

Welcome BigRodney
On Page 66 in the pdf for the 770 Workshop manual, (link below) it tells you the correct procedure for replacement..

Email Hamilton Jet at ( [email protected] ) I'm sure that they'll hook you up with their US dealer or will send to you a wear ring and parts insulator etc to replace.

Thank you. I do have the manual and have read those instructions but like so many things it seems a little too easy. Is it really that easy? Thanks

Hi Big Rodney, do your wear rings really need replacing ? My Colorado 2 stage unit still has the original wear rings, and has been used and abused since I purchased it second hand in 1979. It has seen 3 engines and two hulls. Been in the present hull since 1984, and has numerous impeller rebuilds and replacements, and who knows how much gravel through it, but the wear rings are original.

Hi Rodders, maybe post up a photo of the wear ring for a long distance second opinion? I think John has a good point.

BR... It depends on! how old, how abused, how much salt water,How well its been looked after and maintained. Seized bolts, shafts, frozen impellers, etc will determine if its easy or hard to do.... Do the easy things first.... Like Johnmead said... Is it worn? Measure and check them easy things first then proceed in levels to the desired required end result...... D_D  any pics available???
