Me and a mate recently built a 3.6LVB with a Honda V6 J30a4 and 2 stage kodiak and it goes awesome, great all round boat, Mike from LVB has awesome kit-sets that go together pretty well, so were doing another, this time slightly bigger and slightly more power.
In the photos there is a pics of the 3.6 we just completed
And the other picture is of the j35a8 engine.
J35A8
Power: 286 hp (213 kW) at 6200 rpm
Torque: 256 lb⋅ft (347 N⋅m) at 5000 rpm
Compression: 11.0:1
Valve Train: 24-Valve SOHC VTEC
On the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2005, 2008 and 2009.
Im using this engine because Jeff is using them, soo they must be good, and then I found out why he was using them, because they are Probaly cheap any no one wants them. Haha, Na theyr lighter than a vq35 by about 10-15kg when fully marinised and shorter about 80-100mm (providing you relocate the oil filter)
Also ali-art make a manifold for the J series hondas that are 5.5kg each side.
But these engines a very difficult to track down. They are from a KB1 honda ledgend, I spent many hrs calling wreckers to track one down and then chasing them for refunds on damaged engines twice.
Also Im using a Flopro because they are are awesome quality, Light, Proven and Durable, Easy to get parts, And Ive found Paul Sweeny (Flopro owner) is great too deal with.

So far I have degreased and water blasted, removed intake (The J35 the intake is much lighter than the J30 being magnesium and not alloy), fitted a oil filter relocation block, fitted a Harris marine flywheel they have a intergrated drive block, shaved the front engine mount down for more room, fitted oil pressure sendor and have started fitting kodiak style raw water mixer.

Hi John, did you make the oil relocation block up yourself? Are these available to purchase?

TracTuff
Very expensive. Theres a bit going on with them as theres a few oil gallerys, vtec solenoid and weird gaskets with mesh filters. Like $600 NZ including freight n gst and thats without out the lines or oil filter block, i got the lines and oil filter block from alibaba.
The stock oil filter assembley could be cut and drilled and tapped to suit the an lines much cheaper.

The J30a4 was 189kg. That was engine mounts, mixer, loom, alternator, starter motor, H-bar drive shaft, drive-block, manifolds and oil
The J35a8 should be a few kgs lighter.
The Vq35de (rwd model) I recently did was 200kg with the same bits attached.

There is my j35a8 (magnesium intake) with,
Exhaust headers
Balance pipe,
Alternator,
Starter,
Alloy flywheel.
Still needs drive block, fuel pump, wiring, engine mounts.
Should come in just under 160kg.
My exhausts and water mixer bit lighter
The Legend spec engine is the super grunty de luxe model, higher compression, piston oil squirters etc...
I should put mine In a boat to compare with John's....

The good thing about the Honda v6 is it's quite compact, only one camshaft on each head.
But the 3.5 is hard to find, there is also a 3.7 somewhere going into a boat
The 3.0 is common, almost a pest.
I have binged the j30 into 3.0m hull and it will just crack 60mph @6200rpm.

Progress. Cooling system done, starter done, wiring done. Ran first
with the link atom. Used exact same tune as the j30 so this confirms the trigger between the j30a3 and j35a8 are the same
Had a measure up and the j35 is 80mm shorter than the vq35.

Yea mike harris in chch makes em. Because its a bit smaller if turns over real fast and starts quick. Also it was a dream to fit up. Perfectly machined and light. No drive block needed. Hbar bolts straight up. Only pain in the bum is getting the crank bolts. Ya gotta make em. Theyr like m11x1.0 or something weird. Make em out of long m12 cap screws that are not fully threaded

Crank bolts are m12x1.0
I make longer cap screw ones also.
I did find some once that suited, off a Ford transit or some similar pos...
