Maybe to clear the exhaust? seems to lay the fittings back at the same angle as the dropper?  2c

Yup bang on kakapo.   Its so the hoses clear under the manifolds nicely.  Also allows more room for getting too the adjustable engine mount.

Exhaust sorta done.  2 into 1 setup.    3inch into 4inch muffler can.   then itl go too one 3inch outlet.

Looking really good- did you put any baffles in your muffler? I have an identical setup and found it quite loud- am wondering if mesh or more water is the answer?

Also all you J series guys out there- has anyone noticed any difference in the bell housing bolt patterns across different j30's/ J35's? Specifically, the 2 or 3 bolts on the left side of the housing (looking at it) where most of us are mounting the starter?

The j35a8 bellhousing is totally different to all the other J series. I believe the some j37 out of the awd vehicles (not sold new here anyway) is different also.
Not sure about the old family of j series, the conventional exhaust head models?

good progress with the build, the Honda v6 is looking like a nice setup. a wee bit off topic, do you know if the exhaust port off the J30's is the same as the Honda R18, I am thinking of using one in a build and the cast manifold looks like it could work maybe with a small adaptor plate. hopefully not too high.

Cheers

Can confirm j37a1 is the same bell housing as the j35a8

Na no baffles.  Ill try put the outlet on the muffler as close to the centre as possible (gives more time for both banks to evenly mix with water rather than having outlet on one side) and use rubber hose all the way from the can to transom outlet. Have done this on heeps of other setups and its worked real well. Quick and easy too build. 100mm alloy tube.  I might put a few baffles or a holey pipe in the transom outlet on this one for an experiment.

With the starter i havent really compared bellhouse patterns, Ive used a J30A5 starter on myne and theres not many places it can go that it can use a bellhouse hole for bolt.  The end of the J30 starter is quite long and anywhere else it hits on the engine block.

Too be fair this engine is a total dick to marinise compared too a VQ35, theres much more work in it. But its shorter and lighter and they do sound a bit better for a v6

The aliart guy has these manifolds that are not drilled for the exhaust studs yet so you may be able to get on and drill it your self, also the J35z2 has a different exhaust port stud pattern too the j30and j35

I believe the R18 exhaust flange is slightly different,
I know the L15 4 cylinder is different for sure. I can check the R18 later on but Honda seems to make little differences between models, just enough to trip you up....

This video shows how loud or quiet it is.   Second boat has a 250x kawazaki in it.  First one is the Honda v6 J30.  Same setup muffler

Thanks Jeff b and JohnR

I was thinking of getting an undrilled manifold as the gaskets look similar but couldn't find any measurements online to confirm. I think I will order the engine and go from there. Cheers fellas

The interwebs seem to think that the 1998-2006 j series models share the same bell housing pattern across the range. Hoping this is accurate as it makes swapping parts lots easier.

Jeff is right.   They are different.  I just compared a j30a5 to the j35a8 and they different.  I have a j35z2 also that looks the same as the j35a8 bellhousing

I have had a good read through Mohawks build whick made it look like a good option, does Sean Cooney have a build thread? I have 2 options, just weighing up pros and cons, and what parts I have about. I plan on using a zjet hull, 3.2 with ski unit if I go for carbs, and 3.6 with colorado if I go for a turbo setup, plan on using a saco impellor for either option. I will put up a build thread. picking up the engine this weekend all going well. Sorry to hijack your thread. Cheers again.
