Guess this has been done? Will an old 3 litre Ford V6 heat exchanger cool a standard Commodore V6 (Ecotech)??

I've got one on a 220HP Chev 4.3L without any issues - only fed from a single unit takeoff too.

Have you looked at the Honda J35A V6 engines? Lighter and more power have a look at this thread by the boys....

If you decide to go the Holden V6 route get a 3.8 Ecotec L36 from a VT

http://www.gmautospares.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=183

around 200hp compared to my 170hp 1993 VR 3800 L27 V6..... Cheers

Depends which savage heat exchanger the 80mm 600mm long one is to small ok for normal boating but when you do a long high speed run it will over heat
The 80mm x 800mm one is the one I changed to due to overheating

Naah, that's not right.
The one I believe was on the Ford V6, is 80mm dia, 400mm long core, 470mm long overall.  This is the same one I've had on my 220HP Chev 4.3L for the last decade without any issues - including towing other boats.  If yours is overheating, I'd suggest looking at size of the pipes and fittings between the jet and where it dumps overboard - as long as you have good raw-water flow it will be fine.
