773 intake tail pipe stud
« on: April 15, 2022, 21:05:05 PM »
On a boat we just brought, one of the unit intake tail pipe studs has broken, that?s the long stud from inside the unit to the tail pipe. Of course it?s one of the bottom ones that is hard to get to inside the hull. Are there any tricks to easily getting the broken bit out? Feels like it?s threaded at the intake end as we can?t tap it out. Thanks

Dis assemble unit, blades, stators the lot, mark everything and put it back the same way when done with grease on shaft, and take the big round bit off that all 6 studs go thru that creates a seal with the big rubber gasket take lock nut off the inside stuf and itl have to come out the rear, that's the way they go in.  With the unit disassembled I would weld a small socket or a bit of rod in the shape of a T to the stud and wind it out.

It wont come out from the inside of the boat side.

When installing the impellers, grease the shaft with a good anti-sieze grease. Ordinary grease can make it damned hard to remove them next time.

some anti seize grease can cause electrolyse, a silver grade anti seize is better than a copper base for that reason.

International Res-Q-Steel Anti-Corrosion Paste. 4 years submerged in the ocean and prop shafts on trawlers come apart like they where done up yesterday....
It doesn't like heat!!! not for exhausts. But any other place you want to have worry free access its the shizzel.....AND it sticks like calf poo wear gloves to apply.....

A little goes a long way and its expensive $100 for 800g.
